Debates lab for Luhansk and Donetsk regions is working!

On the eve of the International Human Rights Day, the National Press Club hosted online debates between the teams of activists, journalists and civil servants.

It was a breath-taking intellectual event.

Debaters from Luhansk and Donetsk Oblasts discussed the following important and, at times, complex topics:

Amalgamating communities to solve local problems. Initiatives from above or below? How to ensure rights for all the population strata: a long-term plan or gradual steps already today?

Thanks to Dmytro Tuzov’s excellent moderation, the online debate grew into a school of debating mastery. The participants worked with all the modules of technical support and thematic brainstorming, and expert recommendations.

With the support of the Media Program in Ukraine implemented by Internews, Iryna Vyrtosu, coordinator of the Human Rights Network for Journalists and journalist of the ZMINA Human Rights Information Center delivered a lecture to the debate participants.

The event was organized by NGO Donetsk Youth Debate Center as part of the UN Recovery and Peacebuilding Program in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports of Ukraine and Souspilnist Foundation, with the financial support of the governments of Denmark, Sweden and Switzerland.

The UN Recovery and Peacebuilding Program is implemented by four UN agencies: the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the United Nations Framework for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (UN Women), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. (FAO). The program is supported by eleven international partners: the European Union, the European Investment Bank, as well as the governments of the United Kingdom, Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland and Japan.
