Talking in the shelter about what matters. Yuriy Filiuk

Yuriy Filiuk, co-founder of Warm City, a platform for creating opportunities and social transformations, and СЕО at the innovative center Proprylad Renovatsiia based on an old plant, was the guest of Souspilnist Foundation’s video project “Antithesis.”

Hosts Ivan Tsyperdiuk and Iryna Mykhalchuk anchored the conversation.

We are highlighting key quotes from the conversation.

“Entrepreneurship is needed not just in business, but in any field: culture, education, and society.

For the last eight years, I’ve had a great interest in working at the intersection. I mean seeking models that would benefit society. This work is about building processes, including achieving the ambitions and goals I set for myself or the teams I work with. And it’s also about the money.”

Despite the apparent wartime risks (“something [missiles – ed.] could fly in”), we’ve resumed the refurbishing of Promprylad. Before the war, we sold 6,200 sq. m. It was full. We’ve filled it in more to have a full house like in “The Mitten.” Some Ivano-Frankivsk organizations and businesses have temporarily given their space to people, with many letting [others] enter their territory by splitting their areas. But that’s not enough; we can do more.”

“I hear figures like 30% to 40% of GDP drop within the year. That’s a catastrophe. Any negative figure, e.g., minus one percent, is already considered a disaster for a normal economy in peacetime, but we’re now talking about really incredible figures.”

“There’s a chance of rapid recovery if we end the war quickly, and if we have some sort of effective program, a “Marshall plan” like “Restoring Economic Potential.” However, the thing is that we must have a victory that will remove all threats of resuming the war, so very consistent, large investments from the West will come here. We’ll certainly have an economic shrinkage, and we will feel it anyway, but our mood won’t sink too much because we’ll understand that everything will recover. If not now, then in a year, two or three years, but things will start looking up.”

“I think it’s essential that we look for all possible ways to get involved in economic life under these conditions – not wait or wait out. Even if, roughly speaking, it’s cheaper to wait out, it’s still better to be working now.”

“We must understand that the difference in experience is a great danger. It’s something we still have to work with and understand each other. That’s why tolerance is a significant category in this situation.”

“By the way, we’ve already decided for ourselves that when Ukraine’s revival takes hold, we are ready to go out there and share our experience of rebuilding [Promprylad – ed.]. However, unfortunately, history tells us that cities are not rebuilt quickly and in large numbers, and some things will stay here forever.”

We could not record the end of the conversation because of a technical malfunction. However, you can watch the main part of the broadcast on Souspilnist Foundation’s Facebook page and our partner media platforms: KURS, Reporter, and TRK RAI.
