“Resistance”: stories of indifferent ukrainians in Nastya Izvoshchikova’s project

Anastasiia Izvoshchikova, a graduate of the Media Mobility Hub program, a journalist of the publication Format 21 produced by the Souspilnist Foundation, became the finalist of the “War in Focus” national resistance and defense of the state competition from the command of the AFU Territorial Defense. Tomorrow the winners will be awarded in Kyiv. Nastya reached the finals in the “Favorite of Viewers” category.

At a time when Ukraine represents the needs and priority plans for post-war recovery and long-term modernization strategies, young journalist Anastasiia Izvoshchikova tells how Ukrainians fight daily for their country’s right to life through their work. Our team and Nastia presented the media project “Resistance” jointly with the “Heroes for Freedom” platform. The project aims to tell the stories of people who live nearby and resist Russian aggression alongside our valiant defenders.

Within the Format 21, twelve stories of people of different ages, places of residence, and activities are covered. “Resistance” is about the caring and brave Ukrainians who make every effort to withstand and liberate their homeland from occupiers.

The story called “The Train Stops, and Within Seconds Children Are Already on the Floor and Covering Their Heads with Their Hands: Olena Kravchenko on War, Evacuation, and Rescuers from Ukrzaliznytsia” was submitted for the “War in Focus” contest.

The organizers received 385 submissions across seven categories. Their goal is to acknowledge the creators of the finest publications, interviews, videos, photos, and radio reports (podcasts) depicting the Ukrainian people’s resistance against the aggressor country and the courage of Ukrainian soldiers during wartime. Former journalists who are presently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine are among the members of the independent jury.

Journalistic work is a mirror of our society, reflecting all its joys and sorrows, triumphs and challenges. It’s important to emphasize this on the day dedicated to recognizing professionals who tirelessly safeguard public interest and truth, fearlessly pose difficult questions, and seek light even in the darkest corners.

Today, we thank you for your courage, integrity, and perseverance. For being able to find the truth and convey it to each of us. For remaining true to your calling despite all the challenges and dangers.
