On September 9-10, the second session of the Online Debate Media Production School took place.
During the two-day intensive workshop on producing online debate programs, topics under discussion included the place and role of the moderator in debate programs, selecting a debate topic, and producing a debate program.
In addition to theoretical courses, the participants were given a practical task: acting as a moderator in the debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Videos were filmed at a professional studio, with the materials being evaluated by media experts, providing feedback and advice.
“Clearly define the topic, with no half-tones. If your topic is “What is it you don’t like about medical reform?”, I’m afraid, there will be no debate.
Your function is to be above this debate, but you’re present there to point to invalid arguments used by this or that party,” — Dmytro Tuzov, NV Radio host.
“If we talk about what distinguishes a moderator from a presenter, it is about a “dry” story. Thе moderator cannot show his/her emotions no matter what is being discussed. The moderator is a
figure carved out by rules”, — Olena Shakhova, media producer.
Upon completion of training, the participants received certificates.
