On World Press Freedom Day, May 3, the International Insurance Fund for Journalists (IIFJ) began operation.
The Fund is an initiative of six non-profit public organizations: Souspilnist Foundation, the Association of Independent Regional Publishers, Institute of Mass Information, Detector Media, Center for Democracy and Rule of Law, and the Regional Press Development Institute.
In the two months after the full-scale invasion, russia committed 243 war crimes against media journalists in Ukraine. According to the IMI, seven journalists were killed and nine injured in the line of duty, with fifteen missing in action as of April 29.
Therefore, Souspilnist Foundation and its partners are seeking every possible way to provide journalists with insurance options.

What is the policy period?
The Fund will be able to provide one journalist with insurance for a period of one to three days.
Who decides which applications to accept?
Applications from journalists from bona fide media outlets complying with the Code of Journalistic Ethics will be accepted. The IIJF’s Coordinating Council will review each application and decide whether to provide or refuse insurance.
