We’ve received around 100 applications from all regions of the country. The School of Wartime Storytelling is a three-day journalism intensive training workshop where journalists receive practical tools for working with stories from special coaches and guests.
On day one (November 17th), participants will get to know their program mentor, who will assist them in improving their created content. Today, we can already announce that the mentor for the School of Wartime Storytelling will be Ivan Antypenko, a Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty correspondent. The journalist who currently resides in Kherson will share his experience of working in the city and reporting on the war to the world.
Olena Removska, a TV presenter from Suspilne, will deliver an inspiring talk. The journalist will explain how interviews are an effective storytelling tool, share her own professional experience, and provide guidance to the participants.
We will also have special guests who are sure to impress our participants.
Maryan Kushnir, a war correspondent for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, will kick off day two of the School of Wartime Storytelling on November 18th. While working in Ukraine’s hotspots, Maryan gained extensive experience in unpredictable conditions. Therefore, he will share his knowledge, thoughts, and advice with our participants.
Olha Kruhlii, the head of the communications department at “Svidomi,” will shed light on the topic of storytelling in social media during times of war. Olha will share practical case studies, observations, and explain how the online space can be effectively used for promoting stories.
Olesia Yaremchuk, a journalist and PEN member, will delve into all the intricacies of storytelling in social reporting. Olesia will provide effective tools on how to narrate impactful stories.
Psychoterapist Ruslana Bezpalcha will guide journalists on how to work with sensitive topics and with people who have experienced traumatic events. A practical training session will take place where media professionals will acquire important knowledge about handling sensitive issues.
On the concluding third day (November 19), Olha Huzhva, a media expert and founder of the “Skhid” media center, will talk about the security aspects of planning work and assessing risks during wartime. Our participants can expect hands-on practical work during which journalists will enhance their professional skills and acquire new knowledge.
Francis Farrell, a journalist from The Kyiv Independent, will share insights on how journalists can convey the truth to the global audience. With his extensive experience in working with international readership, Francis is well-versed in all the nuances of storytelling for foreign audiences.
The final speaker of the School of Wartime Storytelling will be Olena Pashkovska, a journalist from Babel, who will delve into the topic of artificial intelligence in journalism and share the newsroom team’s experience in utilizing neural networks.
We have also invited a special guest who will sum up all three days of the intensive workshop and inspire participants to do their best work after the School of Wartime Storytelling.
