Media literacy and resilience of Ukrainians: the path to life competence

“Resilience of Ukrainians during wartime, as a necessary life skill, should be shaped through daily practices of media and information literacy and mental and physical strength,” emphasized Taras Petriv, President of the Souspilnist Foundation, at the International Conference on Media Literacy and Media Self-Regulation.

In his opinion, Ukraine currently requires effective nationwide campaigns promoting critical thinking and the systematic implementation of a new culture of information consumption.

“We must ensure the expansion of cross-sectoral innovative partnerships between media practitioners and non-traditional communication participants, including musicians, writers, filmmakers, artists, representatives of leading universities in the country, as well as the creation of new creative products and synthesized means of promoting critical thinking skills to reach millions of citizens through events and educational initiatives, primarily targeting young Ukrainians,” believes the Souspilnist Foundation’s President. “Total resistance to aggressive disinformation must become our course and motto,” emphasized Taras Petriv. “Being media-literate should also be fashionable and stylish. Additionally, we have an ambitious task ahead of us – to exponentially expand the space of media literacy ambassadors across the entire country.”

“By embracing a zero-tolerance policy towards manipulating public opinion and strengthening effective strategic communications, we can repel hostile disinformation tsunamis and convey significant narratives of today’s shared struggle and solidarity. We can tell the stories of Ukrainian heroes – strong, creative, resilient, and motivated people who fight daily for freedom and the right to national identity and whom Ukrainians of current and future generations can look up to,” stated Taras Petriv.
