The MUR Project made an appearance at our Critical Thinking Evening in MIL House. This year, they released an album about the poets of the Executed Renaissance and the residents of the Slovo Building — “You [Romance],” followed by a rap musical of the same name.
“Why does culture go hand in hand with war? Because it paves the way for it. We traveled to de-occupied Kherson, where we gave a lecture about Ukrainian writers. And what struck me most was one woman. She seemed sad and even a little angry, but then she said: ‘The delivery of information was very high-quality, so modern. It’s great that you came, but if such lectures had been given since 1991, there wouldn’t have been [a war] in 2014, nor in 2022.’ People closer to the front line understand the importance of culture and access to verified information,” said MUR founder Oleksandr Khomenko.
The project is designed and implemented by the NGO Souspilnist Foundation in cooperation with UNESCO Ukraine and with the support of the people of Japan. The project is part of UNESCO’s broader efforts to support the safety of journalists and freedom of speech in Ukraine.
