Ukrainian media in focus: challenges, standards and transformations of wartime – the main topics of National Media Talk 2024

Ukrainian journalists are demonstrating a high level of professionalism during wartime, emphasized Bridget A. Brink, the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine, during the opening of the National Media Talk 2024 conference.

National Media Talk (NMT) is a large-scale forum that brings together media professionals to engage in a dialogue about the most important contemporary issues, industry challenges, journalistic standards during the war, market transformations, and new trends.

Yevhen Hlibovytskyi from Frontier Institute opened the discussion with a substantial keynote speech titled “Chasing the Audience: How Ukrainian Media Can Synchronize with Those They Should Serve.”

The conference will last for two days and will feature heated debates on important industry topics, including whether state influence on media has increased in 2024, if the crisis of human capital in media is worsening and if there are effective methods to address it, whether Ukraine should uphold high media freedom standards amid full-scale war, how media freedom restrictions could affect Ukraine’s integration into the European Union, and which technologies will have the greatest impact on media in the coming year.

During the conference, Gillian McCormack, Director of Internews Network in Ukraine and head of the USAID Media Program in Ukraine, will present the Annual USAID/Internews Study on Media Consumption in Ukraine.

National Media Talk traditionally features speakers who are experts in the field, knowledgeable about the Ukrainian media landscape, analyze the market, and find new solutions to complex challenges.
