Spring always arrives like the barely noticeable whisper of a wind that has grown warmer. It is a special time to leave behind the long winter pause, straighten your shoulders, and turn creative plans into confident steps forward. This can be done decisively together with the International Journalists’ Insurance Fund.
The program is designed for representatives of independent Ukrainian media (journalists, camera operators, fixers, photographers) who:
– Travel on official assignments to combat zones, de-occupied areas, or frontline territories.
– Have their own protective equipment (helmet and body armor).
– Adhere to the Code of Journalistic Ethics.
Priority is given to those who have completed safety and first aid training.
The International Journalists’ Insurance Fund (IJIF) is a unique example of professional solidarity that enables media professionals to work in combat zones with guaranteed financial protection.

In February, the International Journalists’ Insurance Fund received 49 applications and approved 40 of them. Twenty journalists were insured for a total of 101 insurance days — dozens of trips to regions where their work is difficult, yet critically important.
This time, 8 media outlets were able to benefit from the support: Suspilne, Vorskla, BohuslavMedia, Locator Media, Obrii of Iziumshchyny, United24, Ukrainian Witness, and Donbas News. For Suspilne alone — 29 insurance days.
For us, this is more than statistics. It is about care and support for those who work where the truth especially needs a voice.
The International Journalists’ Insurance Fund (IJIF) is an initiative of six civil society organizations: the Souspilnist Foundation, the Association of Independent Regional Publishers of Ukraine (AIRPU), the Institute of Mass Information (IMI), Detector Media, the Centre for Democracy and Rule of Law, and the Regional Press Development Institute (RPDI).
We are grateful to newsroom teams for their vital work and to our partners for their continued cooperation!
