On July 17-18, two dozen young journalists learned how to create debate programs at the Online Debate Media Production School.
Intensive training for journalists and students at journalism schools from across the country was organized by Souspilnist Foundation together with Internews Ukraine and with the support of Detector Media, in collaboration with a professional TV team.
During day one, the participants discussed the place and role of the moderator in debate programs and how to select a debate topic with NV Radio host and online debate moderator Dmytro Tuzov.
Dmytro Hruzynskyi, TV and radio network development director at UA:PBC, spoke about how to stay afloat on the “information wave” to always keep abreast of events, while media producer Olena Shakhova spoke about the format, time frames, rules and production details of debate programs.
On the same day, the young journalists created two debate programs in a professional studio on the following hot-button topics: “Should prostitution be legalized in Ukraine?” and “Do Ukrainians need short-barrel guns?”
On the second training day, the participants received feedback on their projects and learned how to promote debate programs during the lecture by Viktoriia Dubinets from Souspilnist Foundation. They also learned about how to guard against stress and behave in critical situations from Andriy Sydorenko, the CareYou program curator at Souspilnist Foundation.
Upon completion of their studies, the participants were awarded certificates. They are to continue working on the recorded programs in groups.
