The Independent Media Council invites journalists, editors, press secretaries, media educators, students of journalism, and all representatives of the media community in the Mykolaiv region to the online discussion “Possible escalation of conflict: hot to report and avoid errors” that will be held from 12:00 to 14:00 on November 29.
According to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry and MFA, and the Western media, Russia is moving troops to Ukraine’s border and might undertake military escalations. The south of Ukraine borders on the occupied Crimea, where the Russian army is also stationed making the region a possible target for provocations and disinformation.
Therefore, the Independent Media Council will hold a series of regional webinars in the Mykolaiv, Odesa, Kherson, and Zaporizhia regions on how to cover the topic of escalation. At the webinars, we will discuss the topic of escalation and provide advice/exchange skills/work out rules for working under the conditions of ongoing conflict together with the media. We will discuss the following:
- What is escalation;
- How to write about armed conflicts;
- How to see that you are dealing with manipulation and not facts;
- What to do in an emergency or a zone of hostilities;
- How to share video footage and photos illustrating media reports on military aggression;
- How to write about prisoners of war and hostages;
- What else you should know about the shelling zones;
- Other issues.
The first event will be held on Zoom for media representatives in the Mykolaiv region.
