The intensity of the sessions was off the charts, as was the number of authoritative speakers. Every reporter should be prepared to work “in the field.” They need to be able to quickly react to non-standard situations in dangerous places and during filming in conflict zones. If necessary, they must provide themselves or their colleagues with first aid and technical assistance, as emphasized by Dmytro Tuzov, a media expert at Souspilnist Foundation and host at NV Radio, who conducted the author’s training and introduced the necessary equipment for working as a war correspondent.
The master class on tactical medicine was brilliantly conducted by pre-medical aid instructors Ihor Baluyev from NGO Ukrainian Legion and Leona Krasniankova from the Tactical Medical Center “Continent.”
Oleksandr Matiushenko, a correspondent for the MART TV channel from Mykolaiv, shared his experience of working in conflict zones. Vitalii Zalevskyi, a special correspondent for Channel 5, thoroughly explained how to cover complex topics on television. The hot topic of podcasts and storytelling on social media couldn’t be overlooked either. Olia Kruhlii, a journalist, communications specialist, and podcast producer, shared life hacks for creating audio and video projects.
Media managers and architects of Suspilne – Darya Yurovska and Zurab Alasania (currently serving in the Armed Forces) – talked about mission, wartime senses, and challenges for the country and the profession.
We say thank you to our partners, colleagues, and media interns who were with us! An awesome lineup of speakers is already set up to for the next intensive training session!
