Ukrainian photojournalist Yuliia Kochetova has become the winner of the global stage of the World Press Photo international photo award. Her multimedia project “War is Personal” combined photographs, poetry, audio clips, and music and was recognized as the best in the “Open Format” category.
“All my work is possible thanks to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who have been defending us from Russian occupation since 2014,” Yuliia wrote on social media. “They have covered me a hundred times, and I am infinitely grateful for their trust. My work is possible thanks to journalist colleagues who died with a camera in their hands, knowing how important it is to document our war.”
“No award wins the war. But I have a clear sense that I am one of those who holds our flag. I will do this as long as I have strength. Honor to the fallen, glory to the living.”
