On August 28-29, 12 listeners came to Kyiv from across Ukraine to be trained at the School of Online Debate Media Production.
During day one of the two-day intensive workshop on producing online debate programs in collaboration with a professional TV team, the topics discussed included: the place and role of the moderator in the debate programs, staying afloat on the information wave, selecting a debate topic, and debate program production. The listeners were also producing their own debate programs.
During day two, the participants received feedback on their debate programs, learned about how to promote projects in social networks, and overcome stressful situations during the filming.
The lecturers of the School were Dmytro Tuzov, NV Radio host and moderator of the Responsible Leadership online debate series, Andriy Hetman of StarLightMedia, ICTV, Olena Shakhova, media producer, Viktoriia Dubinets, SMM coordinator at Souspilnist Foundation, Andriy Sydorenko, ”Care you” program curator at Souspilnist Foundation. TV techniques were taught by the Malevich team.
“The topic is one of the debate’s main elements. It’s not as easy to select a topic as it may seem. Society needs to measure up to discussions on certain topics.” – Dmytro Tuzov, NV Radio host.
“As journalists and debate moderators, you do not need to ask convenient questions. Maybe, they will not greet you cheerfully on the street afterwards, but they will respect you.” — Olena Shakhova, media producer.
“It’s extremely important to understand with what kind of people you’re conducting a debate, and what should be expected of this or that speaker. You should think in advance about how to “escalate” or “soften” their emotions, rhetoric, pace.” – Andriy Sydorenko, “Care you” program curator at Souspilnist Foundation.
Upon completion of training, the participants received their certificates.
This workshop was made possible with the support of USAID Media Program in Ukraine, implemented by Internews, and with the help of private patrons.
