Today, on November 17th, participants of the training workshop have come from different regions of Ukraine to learn how to work with stories more effectively, acquire practical tools for it, and also exchange experiences.
Christopher Atwood, the head of the advisory group at Souspilnist Foundation, greeted the participants with a welcoming speech from New York.
“Now, more than ever, it’s crucial to understand the significance of storytelling. Because it’s through stories that we must tell the world the truth about Ukraine,” emphasized Christopher.
Ivan Antypenko, a correspondent for Radio Free Europe, became the School’s mentor. The journalist shared his unique experience of working in Kherson, specifically the challenges, risk assessment, and issues related to access. In the coming month, our participants will work diligently with Ivan to improve their journalistic content.
Ihor Rozkladai, the deputy director at CEDEM, emphasized, “Currently, there are many challenges for journalists in the online space, especially on social media platforms that were originally created for entertainment content. Nevertheless, you must exercise caution and explore ways and methods to truthfully convey stories about Ukraine during wartime.”
The first day of work was concluded by Olena Removska, a TV presenter at Suspilne. Olena talked about how interviews can become an effective tool in storytelling and shared secrets of interviewing key figures during wartime. She also shared her vast professional experience with our participants and inspired journalists with her speech for their future work.
Thank you to our partners, colleagues, and participants for their collaboration. We continue working together!
