On April 28, an online expert discussion – Media in times of global threats: new challenges and solutions – took place.
The discussion was attended by Director General of Interfax Ukraine Oleksandr Martynenko, Chairman of the Board of NGO Hromadske Radio Andriy Kulykov, former editor-in-chief of NV Radio Valeriy Kalnysh, editor-in-chief of Detector Media Nataliia Lyhachova, Chief of VOA’s Ukrainian Service in 1987-2015 Adrian Karmazyn, journalist of Ukrainian Radio Nataliia Sokolenko, journalist of Hromadske TV Anastasiia Stanko, investigative journalist of Bihus.info Danylo Mokryk, Chairman of the Board of Internews Ukraine Kostiantyn Kvurt.
The purpose of the event was to provide expert analysis of the media market in Ukraine and how it has been impacted by the special conditions of journalistic work, the global challenges of the pandemic and economic crisis, as well as new opportunities in overcoming threats.
There are huge risks. It is not only an economic death, but also a concentration of capital in pro-Russian media’s hands. And through the media, of course, the whole country can get trapped in the Russian information space. Decentralization that already exists in Ukraine is our chance, and so is working responsibly with those who continue to work. I believe that those who want to stay in the market should consider branding again. That’s what distinguishes successful media from the rest.
